Linking Business & Government

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund celebrates its 25th birthday next year – and it’s doing it in style.

Ordinarily, the Fund distributes around $54 million every year in four rounds to Queensland clubs, societies and associations to support their valuable work in the community. Not-for-profit groups can apply for funding of between $500 and $35,000 for equipment, repairs, events – even vehicles.

But in this extraordinary, Commemorative round, the Fund offers ten grants of $100,000 and one grant of $250,000 to eleven lucky Queensland clubs.

There are some restrictions on what the money can be spent on:

  • major capital works (excluding repairs/refurbishment of existing facilities unless of cultural significance);
  • major equipment item;
  • wider community events or festivals; and
  • transportation (e.g. cars, boats, buses etc.).

The regulations stipulate that “Applications will only be considered for 1 purpose and not a combination of purposes to add up to the total available grant funds, unless the items are directly related to achieve the outcomes of the application.” Also, a club applying for one of the 11 Commemorative grants cannot apply in an ordinary round of the Fund, which is open at the same time.

There will be two stages to the process:

Stage 1: Expressions of interest have opened on 2 June 2018 and will close at 11.59pm on 31 August 2018.

Stage 2: Application by invitation – shortlisted applicants will be invited by email. Stage 2 applications close at 11.59pm on 28 February 2019.
